Composer/guitarists Anders Nilsson and Ty Citerman have arranged Arnold Schoenberg’s Drei Klavierstücke op. 11 and Sechs kleine Klavierstücke op. 19 for two electric guitars. The unusual and compelling re-orchestration of these works sheds new light on their harmonic richness, angular lyricism and polyphony.
The duo (also known as The 49ers) primarily focuses on music they love composed for instruments other than guitar – especially piano music – including works by Schoenberg, Bela Bartok, Dmitri Shostakovich and other ground-breaking modernist composers from the early 20th century.
Anders and Ty share decades of study in contemporary classical music as well as individual backgrounds steeped in jazz and improvised music.
